Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television reporter, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. Then, in 1992 she was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She participated as a member of the panel at 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure in office from 1981 to 1988. She covered many notable issues, such as the weapons control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
